What do you look for in a Code Editor?

I discover myself typically trying to find higher editor experiences when writing code.

Issues I’ve tried:

  • Visible Studio code: too sluggish, useful resource hog.
  • Atom: similar as above.
  • Intellij: very sluggish to open.
  • NeoVim/Vim: steep studying curve and requires a very good reminiscence (human, not laptop!).
  • Lite (and Lite-xl): missing fully-featured language help at the moment.
  • Chic Textual content: Has most likely come the closest to my dependable editor, however truly getting it setup to be an editor may be fiddly, as a result of it is primarily speculated to be a textual content editor.

Issues I want:

  • Velocity – my largest frustration
  • cross-platform
  • LSP integrations (particularly gopls and pylsp)
  • debug help (delve, pdb)
  • Massive extension library / checklist of plugins

Issues I would like:

  • Good Testing & protection visualisations
  • Kubernetes & docker help
  • hackability / customisation

This bought me considering, with fashionable LSPs (Language Server Protocols) and wealthy web-based ecosystems – what do you search for in an editor?
